Ribbon Cutting Planning Guide:

Is a Ribbon Cutting Right for the Occasion?

Ribbon cuttings are typically performed for new business openings, but you can use a big pair of scissors to cut a ribbon for any big occasion for your company including:

  • opening a new brand, location, or franchise

  • a milestone business anniversary

  • moving into a new building

  • reopening a business under new management

  • reopening after a devastating event (like a fire or flood)

Step 1: Plan The Date & Time

Contact the chamber office to schedule your Ribbon Cutting. Take note of things like bank holidays and the schedules of the type of contacts you will be inviting. Attendance is part of what makes the event special, so pick a date and time you think will allow for the best turn-out. Typically, Monday through Thursday, 8a-4pm is best for maximum attendance. We recommend a minimum of 30 days for planning time. This will allow time to assign an Ambassador to represent the chamber and ensure everything goes smoothly.

Step 2: Advertise and Send Invitations

We will be sure to post about your upcoming Ribbon Cutting on our social media pages and our webiste. However, we also recommend sending your own e-invites or some other type of advertising to get the most exposure and to invite any special guests you definitely want in attendance.

Step 3: Prepare an Agenda

With the help of one of our ambassadors, we also highly recommend creating an agenda for your event. This way you are concious of everyone’s time and get everything done in the time frame you had originally planned on. Even if it’s short and simple, you’ll be glad you have one.

For Example:

• Choose emcee/speakers
• Welcome & introduction of the company (what you do, about your new location…)
• Introduce VIPS
• Call speakers up
• Cut the ribbon – determine who will cut ribbon and be in the pictures
• Door prize drawing
• Thank you for attending
• Tour facility (if applicable)

Finally: Have Your Ribbon Cutting!

When the big day comes, our ambassador will provide the ribbon and jumbo scissors, you will also be presented with a special certificate from the Chamber. Pictures will be taken and shared on our social media.

Lastly: Highlights & Thank You's

Congrats! You successfully held an awesome Ribbon Cutting for your business. You will be highlighted on the WKACC website and social media pages to show off your event and thank everyone for attending. If you hired any of your own vendors, touch base with them one last time.
